How to Wash Wigs and Lace Units

Shampooing and conditioning the hair keeps it moisturized and damage free. It will prolong the life of your wig and lace units while providing it with the nutrients it needs to survive for as long as possible.

We suggest that you shampoo and condition your wig every two weeks at minimum. Please wash the hair immediately after swimming, going to a spa, exercising, etc.

Dirt and sweat accumulate and create tangles. Excessive use of leave-in conditioners and other hair products will create a build up on the hair and will cause it to tangle faster. If the hair feels dry or heavy with build up, wash it with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

  1. If your unit is applied with attached to your head with adhesive, always remove the wig with lace front citrus remover carefully.
  2. Once removed, clean the wig of any residue tape and/or glue. You may use the citrus remover or for more stubborn adhesive use 99% alcohol.
  3. Now fill the sink with lukewarm water and add a moisturizing shampoo. (We recommend Joico–K PAK , Joico Moisture Recovery, Fredric Fekkai, or Goldwell Kerasilk Shampoo and Conditioner.) Then swirl the shampoo around with your hand.
  4. Now put your wig in the sink and run your fingers through the hair from top to bottom to make sure the shampoo is evenly distributed without rubbing twisting the hair.
  5. Then rinse the shampoo off with water and empty the sink of the shampoo water.
  6. Now fill the sink with lukewarm water and add a moisturizing conditioner. (We recommend Joico–K PAK , Joico Moisture Recovery, Fredric Fekkai, or Goldwell Kerasilk Shampoo and Conditioner.) Then swirl the conditioner around with your hand.
  7. Then return your wig to the sink and run your fingers through the hair from top to bottom to make sure the conditioner is evenly distributed without rubbing twisting the hair.
You may repeat the shampoo or conditioner process as needed.
  8. Now empty the sink and refill it with clean lukewarm water and let the wig or lace units sit for 10 minutes.
  9. Then take the wig and pat dry with a towel. Place the wig on a mannequin & put a detangling solution or a leave in conditioner on the wig. The hair should be soft & able to gently comb through the wig.
  10. Once the hair is manageable, let the hair sit & air dry. If you are in a rush, you can blow dry the wig on low heat. Make sure to avoid heat coming into direct contact with the lace, the heat from the blow dryer should only touch the actual hair.

When possible allow 24 hour before reapplying the wig.
